They were given to a specific people at a specific time in history as a sign of a Covenant that has now become obsolete. We are now under a New Covenant in Christ Jesus. So, our calling is to love God and love others and to follow the teachings of Jesus. He went beyond "an eye for an eye" (Law) and raised the stakes to "love your enemies". It is the love of Christ that now compels us, not any Law from the Old Covenant.
